Volvo Ocean Race Fleet Leaves for Sweden With Ericsson 4 Closing in on Race Victory

The crew of Swedish entry Ericsson 4 can take a step closer to victory in the Volvo Ocean Race if they claim victory in Leg 8, a 950-mile sprint from Galway, Ireland to Marstrand, Sweden. The seven boats are expected to arrive in the Swedish county of Gothenburg next Wednesday (June 10). Winner of the last two legs, Ericsson 4 has opened up a 13 point lead over second-placed Telefonica Blue of Spain and a 14-point advantage over American boat PUMA, in third, with only 28 points left to play for. Ericsson 4 has 94 points, Telefonica Blue 81 and PUMA 80.
