Telefonica Blue Hits Rock

Telefonica Blue Hits Rock While Leading Fleet at Start

There was drama in Marstrand on Sunday, June 14, as Telefónica Blue, skippered by Dutchman Bouwe Bekking, became wedged on a rock and suspended racing while leading the fleet at the start of leg nine to Stockholm. The team immediately dropped their sails but the boat's keel was firmly wedged within the rocks as the rest of the fleet sailed away.

All the crew were unhurt. Leg nine is a short 525-mile sprint from Marstrand to Stockholm and could see Ericsson 4 clinch victory in the premier round-the-world race.
