SAIL Sales Twelve Percent Higher In May

SAIL sales steel one million tonnes - SAIL records 12% higher May sales - News from New Delhi SAIL Headquarters -

Steel Authority of India Ltd, SAIL recorded best-ever monthly sales in the domestic India market of about 1 million tonnes in May 2009, which is higher by 12% over May 2008. With this, domestic sales of steel by SAIL during the first two months of the current financial year stood at about 1.9 million tonnes, 21% higher than CPLY.

SAIL produced around 1.1 million tonnes of saleable steel during May ’09 which is 5% higher than CPLY. Production of special steels and high value-added items went up by 12%, touching 4 lakh tonnes, during the month.

Shri A. Sai Prathap who took charge as Minister of State for Steel, Government of India, few days back, said a major challenge of the Steel Ministry is to complete the expansion programme of Steel Authority of India and the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited on time with SAIL’s production capacity going up from the present level around 15 million tones per annum to around 26 million tonnes over the next three years.
